Former Wallaby Kurtley Beale Found Not Guilty of Sexual Offences in Bondi Pub

Former Wallaby Kurtley Beale has been acquitted of all sexual offences against a woman at a Bondi pub. After a 12-day trial at Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court, Beale, 35, was found not guilty of sexual intercourse without consent and two counts of sexual touching. The Wallabies star had been accused of groping a woman’s bottom, forcing her to perform oral sex, and grabbing her hips at the Beach Road Hotel on December 17, 2022.

Upon hearing the verdicts, Beale’s wife, Maddi Beale, broke down in tears and was comforted by her husband. Beale himself expressed relief, stating that he was glad “the truth has come out” after a difficult year for him and his family.

Beale’s barrister, Margaret Cunneen, SC, announced that her client would be seeking costs. Outside the court, Beale, accompanied by his wife and supporters, emphasized his innocence and the toll the accusations had taken on his personal and professional life.

The trial centered around CCTV footage from the pub, which was used as evidence by both the prosecution and the defense. Crown prosecutor Jeff Tunks argued that the footage showed Beale touching the woman’s bare skin and suggested non-consensual behavior. On the other hand, Margaret Cunneen contended that the woman had been flirting with Beale and that the sexual act in the bathroom was consensual.

The jury deliberated for just over an hour before delivering their unanimous not guilty verdicts. The judge commended the jury for their swift decision, and Beale’s legal team proclaimed that justice had been served.
