CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hunter Renfrow hopes to secure a place on the Carolina Panthers‘ 53-man roster. The wide receiver, best known for his dynamic route running, prepares for a joint practice and preseason game against the Houston Texans.

Once a walk-on at Clemson, Renfrow became a standout at the college level. After a breakthrough moment with the Raiders, when he caught a 65-yard touchdown pass at Houston, he is eager for another turning point in his career.

Reflecting on his past, Renfrow admitted he often felt like he was overthinking games early in his career. “I think I was overthinking everything… I was kind of just doing what was in the playbook,” he said. His coaches encouraged him to “make the play come to life,” leading him to adapt his style of play.

His efforts began to pay off after his game-changing touchdown. “It was kind of a turning point for me,” Renfrow stated, noting it gave him confidence and earned respect from coaches.

Pantheon players like Adam Thielen describe Renfrow’s route-running as uniquely effective. “It’s almost unguardable,” Thielen said, praising Renfrow’s body control and ability to change direction.

Renfrow faced significant challenges recently, including a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis that affected his weight and performance. After a year away from football, he is ready to return, stating, “I think they’re just trying to be cautious” about his health.

“I want to enjoy life and football more,” Renfrow said, indicating a shift in his mindset after overcoming adversity.

As he prepares to face the Texans again, he is eager to embrace every moment, whether on or off the field. “If I can say yes to those two things, then I take it day by day,” he added, looking forward to his comeback.
