Iga Swiatek Dominates Bouzkova at Wuhan Open

WUHAN, China — A week after an early exit in Beijing, Iga Swiatek rebounded on Tuesday with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 victory over Marie Bouzkova to secure her spot in the third round of the Dongfeng Voyah Wuhan Open. The No. 2-seeded Swiatek dominated Bouzkova throughout the match, breaking her opponent six times in just 79 minutes.
Swiatek’s victory comes after a challenging fourth-round loss in Beijing, where she fell to Emma Navarro. Although she is the No. 2 player in the PIF WTA Rankings, Swiatek remains focused on consistent performance as she heads toward the year-end championships. “There are many tournaments that you win and the next week you lose,” she said. “It’s not something I would expect, but I just try to focus on developing.”
Meanwhile, Mirra Andreeva, the No. 5 seed, faced a tough match against veteran Laura Siegemund, losing 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3 in a marathon that lasted over three hours. Andreeva struggled with her serve, racking up 15 double faults and having her service broken eight times, which affected her performance significantly.
Siegemund, now 37 years old, has shown resilience in her game, having upset Australian Open champion Madison Keys earlier this year at Wimbledon. She’ll next face the winner of the match between No. 12 seed Karolina Muchova and Magdalena Frech, both of whom also advanced in previous rounds.
As for Swiatek, she is preparing to face the winner of the match between No. 13 seed Belinda Bencic and Elise Mertens in the next round. Since her early exit in Beijing, Swiatek has managed to collect her 60th match win of the year, becoming the only woman this century to achieve such a feat for four consecutive years. “Every tournament I go to, I want to play my best game,” she stated, emphasizing her commitment to improvement while navigating the competitive landscape of professional tennis.
