Inter Miami Vs New England Revolution

Inter Miami will take to the field for the first time in two weeks as they face the New England Revolution on the final day of the Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season. While other Eastern Conference teams, such as D.C. United, Atlanta United, CF Montréal, and Philadelphia Union vie for the final two playoff spots, Inter Miami has already secured its place in the postseason.

Inter Miami, having clinched the Supporters' Shield for the best record in MLS, enjoys the advantage of home-field throughout the playoffs. However, there remains much to play for on MLS Decision Day, with Miami poised to potentially break a significant record. The team is currently on 71 points and, with a win, can surpass the all-time single-season points record of 73 set by New England Revolution in 2021 under then-coach Bruce Arena.

Legendary forward Lionel Messi, who recently played a full 90 minutes for Argentina against Bolivia, notching a hat-trick and two assists, remains a key figure for the team. There is speculation over whether Miami’s coach Gerardo 'Tata' Martino will start the 37-year-old in the hope of setting a new record. Inter Miami will only return to the pitch the following weekend for the playoffs after the wild card matches conclude.

Martino is likely to deploy a 4-3-3 formation, aiming to press from the onset. The expected lineup includes goalkeeper Drake Callender, who is seeking to secure his sixth clean sheet of the season. Marcelo Weigandt, Tomás Avilés, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba are anticipated to complete the defensive lineup.

The midfield roles are likely to be filled by Julian Gressel, Yannick Bright, and Federico Redondo, each bringing a unique skill set to the team. In the forward positions, Messi, Luis Suárez, and Diego Gómez are expected to lead the attack as Inter Miami aims for a historic win.

Today’s match against the Revolution, kicking off at 6 p.m. ET at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, marks a significant opportunity for Inter Miami. With Messi on the bench to start, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba will feature prominently in the starting lineup.
