Juventus Aims to Extend Dominance in Turin Derby Against Torino
Juventus will look to continue their dominance over city rivals Torino in the 183rd edition of the Derby della Mole on Saturday evening at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. The Bianconeri, unbeaten in Serie A this season, are aiming to extend their 21-game unbeaten streak against Torino in league play.
Juventus coach Thiago Motta emphasized the importance of the match, calling it a ‘special’ derby for the club and its fans. “It will be a tricky match, and a special one for us, for our fans, and for the club,” Motta said. “We can’t wait to get out on the pitch, we want to win.”
Juventus comes into the match after a disappointing exit in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-finals, where they lost to AC Milan. Despite their strong league form, the team has faced criticism for their inability to secure a top-four spot. Motta, however, remains optimistic about the team’s progress, stating, “We are a very young team that has performed well. We need to fully commit ourselves in every training session, day after day, to always come out on top.”
Torino, on the other hand, has struggled in recent months, winning just two of their last 10 league matches. Coach Ivan Juric’s side has been plagued by a lack of goals, scoring only four times in that span. Torino’s last victory over Juventus dates back to April 2015, and they face an uphill battle to break their winless streak in the derby.
Juventus will be without several key players, including Gleison Bremer, Juan Cabal, Arkadiusz Milik, Dusan Vlahovic, and the suspended Manuel Locatelli. Motta hinted that Douglas Luiz, who has been sidelined with injuries for much of the season, could feature in the starting lineup. “He is a top midfielder who can play in all positions in our midfield,” Motta said of Luiz.
Torino’s injury concerns include key midfielder Sasa Lukic and striker Antonio Sanabria, both of whom are doubtful for the match. The Granata will rely heavily on goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, who has been one of Serie A’s most consistent performers this season.
With Juventus’ psychological edge and Torino’s struggles in front of goal, the Bianconeri are favored to secure another victory in this historic rivalry. The match kicks off at 5:00 PM local time on Saturday.
