LSU’s Leading Rusher Caden Durham Out Against Ole Miss Due to Injury

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — LSU running back Caden Durham will not play in Saturday’s game against No. 13 Ole Miss due to an ankle injury. The sophomore was hurt during last week’s 56-10 win over Southeastern Louisiana.
Durham suffered the injury in the second quarter after being tackled. He limped off the field and did not return to the game, finishing with 17 rushing yards on seven carries. LSU coach Brian Kelly confirmed that an MRI ruled out a high ankle sprain.
This season, Durham has led the Tigers with 213 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 52 carries. With him unavailable, sophomore Ju'Juan Johnson and freshman Harlem Berry are expected to share the rushing duties, along with junior Kaleb Jackson.
Even without Durham, LSU’s offense thrived last week, racking up 530 yards against SE Louisiana. However, the Tigers rank 112th nationally in rushing, averaging 116.8 yards per game. This puts them at a disadvantage as they prepare to face Ole Miss, which allows 190 rushing yards per game, the 14th most in the country.
Kelly expressed confidence in his team’s performance despite the injury. “We have a standard for the way we want to play, and I thought we upheld that standard,” Kelly said after the SE Louisiana game. “Now, we’ve got to build on that going into Ole Miss against a very good football team.”
LSU enters the matchup with a 4-0 record, while Ole Miss also boasts an undefeated season so far. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT at Vaught Hemingway Stadium.
