Oman Hosts Asia/East Asia-Pacific T20 Qualifier for World Cup 2024

Al-Amarat, Oman — The T20 qualifying drama unfolds as nine teams compete for three spots in the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Asia/East Asia-Pacific Qualifier in Oman, which kicks off from October 8-17.
This year’s tournament holds significant intrigue as it combines teams from two regions. Six teams represent Asia, and three hail from the East Asia-Pacific region, separated by 16,000 kilometers
Nepal has emerged as a strong contender, having made headlines after defeating the West Indies in a three-match T20I series in the UAE. Their performance has intensified interest as they aim to secure a qualifying spot.
Captain Rohit Paudel leads a squad filled with players from their previous World Cup campaign. All-rounder Kushal Bhurtel has been pivotal, becoming the top wicket-taker despite being a lower-order bowler.
Oman, co-hosting the event, has shown strength in ODI cricket and expects to pose a serious challenge. Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea will rely on their captain Assad Vala for runs, while young spinner John Kariko shoulders the bowling responsibility.
In the East Asia-Pacific qualifiers, Samoa surprised many by winning their place through Qualifier A, edging out teams like Cook Islands and Vanuatu. Caleb Jasmat’s side made history by scoring 39 runs in a single over during the tournament.
Japan has also qualified by defeating the Philippines, South Korea, and Indonesia to secure their position in the group.
Throughout the Asia Sub-Regionals, Malaysia and Kuwait emerged victorious from Qualifier A, while the UAE and Qatar also advanced from their respective groups. These four teams joined the others in the competitive Super 6 stage after a series of intense matches.
The top three teams will secure their spots in the 2024 T20 World Cup, making this an essential competition for all participating nations.
