Phoenix Suns Unveil New Arena Name: Mortgage Matchup Center

PHOENIX, AZ — The Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury announced a new arena name on Thursday. The venue, previously known as PHX Arena, will be called Mortgage Matchup Center following a 10-year, $115 million naming rights deal with United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM).
Suns owner Mat Ishbia, who also serves as UWM’s president and CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “I’m extremely excited about this partnership as it represents two organizations that have natural alignment and a shared commitment to excellence,” Ishbia stated in a news release.
The new agreement is seen as one of the largest naming rights partnerships in the NBA and WNBA. According to Ishbia, Arizona is a strong market for mortgage brokers. He emphasized the need for consumers to understand the benefits of working with mortgage experts for homeownership and refinancing.
Josh Bartelstein, CEO of the Suns and Mercury, mentioned the arena’s role in fostering community. “Our arena hosts more than basketball games and entertainment events — it represents a sense of belonging, community and moments fans carry with them forever,” Bartelstein said. “Mortgage Matchup will help create unforgettable memories at Mortgage Matchup Center.”
The Phoenix Suns will hold their first home preseason game on Tuesday, Oct. 14, while the Mercury are set to participate in the WNBA Finals this week against the Las Vegas Aces.
The naming rights deal follows a series of previous partnerships. The arena was first named America West Arena when it opened in 1992, then was called U.S. Airways Center and later Talking Stick Resort Arena, before briefly becoming PHX Arena after ending ties with Footprint in 2021.
Mayor Kate Gallego welcomed the partnership, saying, “With this announcement, Phoenix strengthens its standing as a premier destination for major events and world-class sports and entertainment.”
