Rinderknech and Medvedev Secure Semi-Final Spots in Shanghai

Shanghai, China — French tennis player Arthur Rinderknech and former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev reached the semi-finals of the Rolex Shanghai Masters on Friday, October 10, 2025.
Rinderknech defeated Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, ranked World No. 13, in straight sets, securing a 6-3, 6-4 victory. This win marks Rinderknech’s first appearance in an ATP Masters 1000 semi-final after defeating three top-20 players consecutively. He expressed his excitement after the match, saying, ‘It is huge. I followed my cousin, and I am happy I was able to perform well today.’
Rinderknech showcased aggressive play, winning 20 of 22 points on his first serve and hitting nine winners. He will next face Danish player Holger Rune, who also advanced after his match.
Medvedev achieved his landmark 50th Top 10 victory by defeating Australia’s Alex De Minaur 6-4, 6-4. The match saw intense rallies, with more than 32 points exceeding nine shots. Medvedev managed to win 15 out of 16 first-serve points in the second set, contributing to his win after one hour and 53 minutes.
Medvedev is seeking his first tour-level title since winning in Rome in May 2023 and has reached 50 semi-finals on hard courts. ‘I was super tired, but I managed to stay clutch in the important moments,’ he said. The Russian player is set to face off against a yet-to-be-determined opponent in his next match.
With his victory, Rinderknech has moved up to No. 37 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings and is expected to achieve a career-high ranking next week.
