Dermarite Industries Skin Care Product Recall

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Several skin-care and health products have been recalled due to potential contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

DermaRite Industries LLC, based in North Bergen, New Jersey, is expanding a voluntary recall first announced on July 16. The recall is due to a potential microbial contamination identified as Burkholderia cepacia complex.

The company warned that this contamination may pose serious health risks, particularly for individuals with weakened immune systems. For healthy individuals with minor skin lesions, using these products may lead to localized infections. However, for those who are immune-compromised, there is a risk that the infection could enter the bloodstream, possibly leading to life-threatening sepsis.

The affected products, distributed across the United States and Puerto Rico, include various over-the-counter items such as:

  • 4-N-1 – no-rinse wash cream for chafed or cracked skin
  • DermaCerin – skin protectant moisturizing cream
  • DermaFungal – antifungal cream
  • DermaKleen – antiseptic lotion soap
  • DermaMed – skin protectant
  • DermaSarra – external analgesic
  • Gel Rite – instant gel hand sanitizer
  • Hand E Foam – foaming hand sanitizer
  • KleenFoam – antimicrobial foam soap
  • Lantiseptic – skin protectant for minor cuts
  • PeriGiene – antiseptic cleanser
  • PeriGuard – skin protectant for rashes from incontinence
  • Renew Dimethicone – skin protectant for diaper rash
  • Renew Skin Repair – skin cream for chapped skin
  • UltraSure – antiperspirant and deodorant

All affected products have expiration dates of August 2027.

Consumers who have used these products and experienced health problems are advised to contact their physician. They can also call DermaRite at 888-943-5190 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday for more information.
