On Wednesday afternoon, Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a tornado watch alert for parts of central Alberta.

The alert affects communities between Wetaskiwin and Calgary, particularly those located west of Veteran’s Memorial Highway and east of the foothills.

This advisory indicates that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could lead to tornadoes, strong winds, large hail, and heavy rain.

Thunderstorms are also a possibility later in the afternoon in the foothills.

Communities in the Calgary area that are under this alert include Mountain View County near Sundre, Olds, Didsbury, Cremona, Water Valley, Carstairs, and Rocky View County near Airdrie, Crossfield, Bottrel, Madden, and Cochrane.

Residents are advised to stay alert and to be prepared for potential severe weather conditions.
