Vasco Grêmio Football Match

Porto Alegre, Brazil — The Vasco da Gama football club finds itself in a significant drought, having not won a match against Grêmio while visiting Porto Alegre for 19 years. In 13 encounters in the Série A of the Brasileirão since 2006, Vasco has managed only two draws and has suffered 11 defeats from their rivals.

The last time Vasco triumphed over Grêmio in Porto Alegre was in 2006, winning 2-1 with goals by Alberoni and Éder. Since then, the club has not scored a point at the Arena do Grêmio, a venue that has hosted the Campeonato Brasileiro since 2013.

In an interview with Globo Esporte, Alberoni expressed his hope for an end to the team’s long winless streak. “If they win, people will forget about me. But I want this drought to end soon. I want to be remembered for other reasons,” he said.

The team’s current 13-game winless streak against Grêmio ranks among the longest in the first division. Among all the teams in the 2025 Série A, only seven have longer active winless runs when playing away, including Sport and Vitória with their respective 23 and 20 games.

Vasco has faced Grêmio a total of 36 times as visitors in the Série A, suffering 24 losses, recording six draws, and securing only six victories. The most recent match was in 2023, where Vasco lost 1-0 to Grêmio, coinciding with the farewell of star player Luis Suárez.

Historically, Vasco’s longest winless streak as visitors in the Série A is against Athletico-PR, where they have not won since 1998. Their struggle to secure points on the road continues, and they previously experienced similar difficulties against rivals like Botafogo and Flamengo.

As the next match approaches, fans and players alike are eager for a change in fortunes as Vasco aims for their first point against Grêmio in over a decade.
