Metro Nashville-Davidson County is currently under a Winter Storm Warning, as declared by the National Weather Service (NWS). The warning, which began on Sunday, January 14, 2024, remains in effect until 6am on Tuesday, with heavy snowfall expected to continue.

This Winter Storm Warning indicates the presence of significant hazardous winter weather in our area. The Nashville Fire Department (NFD) has equipped their vehicles, including ambulances, with snow chains for improved safety on the roads. Additionally, they have staged ambulances closer to hospitals to reduce travel time.

The Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) has deployed crews to salt and plow primary routes, ensuring accessibility for emergency response vehicles and public transportation. Personnel are working 12-hour shifts for 24-hour coverage.

In coordination with NDOT, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is actively engaged in treating and clearing routes throughout the state. They are strategically relocating crews and trucks to maximize coverage.

Metro Nashville Public Schools announced the closure of schools on Tuesday, January 16, and Wednesday, January 17.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) commends the community for limiting travel on Monday and urges residents to avoid unnecessary travel on Tuesday. Officers are monitoring homeless individuals and camps, offering transportation to shelters.

The Metro Social Services (MSS) and Office of Homeless Services (OHS) are working diligently to respond to the needs of vulnerable residents, particularly seniors, disabled individuals, and those experiencing homelessness. They have been distributing supplies and operating the Extreme Cold Weather Overflow Shelter.

WeGo, the public transportation system, has issued a detour alert for the MLK Day Procession and will be rerouting buses during the designated time.

The Metro Public Health Department will be closed on Tuesday, including all clinics, the South Nutrition Center, and Metro Animal Care and Control.
