Mateusz Klich Inter Miami Controversy

Washington, D.C. — Former Major League Soccer player Mateusz Klich has harshly criticized Inter Miami, claiming the club has become a disaster since Lionel Messi‘s arrival in 2023. In an interview with FootTruck, Klich expressed concerns about the team’s organizational structure and culture, describing it as unfavorable for players.

Klich, who played for D.C. United and Atlanta United in MLS, stated, “I don’t recommend Miami as long as Messi is there. It’s a disaster, a terrible club.” He pointed out that Messi’s father has significant influence over club decisions, limiting the involvement of players who do not speak Spanish.

The 35-year-old Polish midfielder shared his experiences, noting that “people are leaving,” referring to coaches and physiotherapists departing the organization. He also remarked, “the club itself is actually 45–50 minutes away from Miami,” questioning the team’s location.

Despite Klich’s criticisms, Messi’s impact on the field has been undeniable. When he joined Inter Miami, the team was at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. His presence led the club to its first-ever Leagues Cup title and helped secure a Supporters’ Shield in 2024, alongside qualifications for prestigious tournaments.

Klich suggested that other MLS teams might be better places for new players. He recommended New York City FC and Red Bull, highlighting their improved stadiums. However, he reserved his highest praise for Nashville SC, calling it the ideal destination due to its vibrant culture and music scene.

As Klich transitions back to Poland to finish his career with Cracovia, he reflects on the dramatic differences between MLS clubs. His candid remarks about Inter Miami underscore the complex dynamics surrounding the franchise amid Messi’s global fame.
