Devin Booker’s Comments Spark Controversy Among Suns Fans

Phoenix, Arizona — The aftermath of Kevin Durant‘s trade from the Brooklyn Nets continues to impact the Phoenix Suns. Days after Durant criticized the team’s direction, Suns forward Devin Booker fueled reactions on social media with his remarks about his experiences during the superteam era.
In a recent interview, Booker reflected on the past two years with the Suns, describing them as the toughest phase of his career. ‘A lot has to go wrong for it to fall off that drastically,’ he explained. ‘But I think it makes you appreciate more the details of the game, the chemistry of the game, the relationships that matter off the court to on the court.’
Booker’s comments attracted mixed reactions, with some fans labeling him a ‘locker room cancer.’ In response, Durant quipped about the criticism, suggesting it was merely ‘rage bait’ as he observed the emotional responses from fans.
During the interview, Booker elaborated on the disconnect among the Suns players, citing a lack of shared goals. ‘There was a disconnect. I don’t think there was any hatred in our last group… but when you’re all on a different plan, that’s what it turns into,’ he added.
Comparing his time in the superteam era to his earlier years in the league, Booker expressed that the high expectations weighed heavily on him. ‘Definitely, the toughest two years of my career,’ he stated, noting the pressure to win a championship.
In a follow-up press conference, Booker spoke about his disappointment in not achieving success alongside Durant and Bradley Beal. ‘It was tough… but it will always be a disappointment to me to not do what we all sought out to do,’ he said.
Booker’s on-court performance has seen a decline lately, dropping from an average of 27.8 points per game in the 2022-23 season to 25.6 points in the last season. However, he excelled as a playmaker, averaging a career-high 7.1 assists per game during the 2024-25 season.
The Suns traded away Chris Paul to make room for Durant and Beal, sacrificing defensive strength to bolster their scoring power. This shift created an imbalance on the roster, challenging the team’s overall dynamics. Observers suggest that if Booker regains his role as the primary scorer, the Suns may establish a more balanced roster in future seasons.
