Amorim Faces Injury Crisis Ahead of Wolves Match
MANCHESTER, England — Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim confirmed that both Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes will miss the upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on December 30. Mainoo, 20, is recovering from an injury, and Fernandes is dealing with a hamstring issue.
Amorim revealed the news during a press conference ahead of the match, stating, “Kobbie is out and Bruno, we will see. I think it is soft tissue; he is going to lose some games.” This concern comes on the heels of a tough game against Newcastle United, where United’s squad was already stretched thin.
Fernandes, United’s captain, suffered a hamstring injury during the match against Newcastle and required substitution at halftime. He is known for his resilience, having missed only two games in the last six years due to injury, which makes this latest development particularly disheartening for the team.
“Bruno was saying that he needs to train,” Amorim said. “No chance he is going to play against Wolves, no chance. He’s a leader, and seeing him wanting to participate shows his dedication.”
The injury woes continue for United, with several players sidelined, including Casemiro, who is serving a suspension. Due to these setbacks, Amorim has fielded a youthful side recently, giving debuts to players like Jack Fletcher and Shea Lacey.
“We need to find different strategies,” Amorim noted. “What we cannot do is reach January and try to do everything in urgency and make mistakes. We have a plan in place.”
As United prepares to host Wolves, who sit at the bottom of the Premier League table with two points, Amorim faces a crucial decision on how to adapt his squad. With only teenagers available on the bench, fans are left wondering how the team will manage the assembly of its lineup for the match.
Amorim has indicated a preference for a back four moving forward and is optimistic about the strategies available, despite the ongoing injuries. He emphasized that creating a cohesive plan is vital for the team’s success as they navigate the challenges ahead.
