University of Illinois Students Showcase AI Boating Tech at CES 2025
LAS VEGAS, NV — Students from the University of Illinois are making headlines at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, showcasing their work in autonomous boating. Interns from the Boating Intelligence Design Lab revealed innovative technology they developed in collaboration with Brunswick Corporation, a leader in marine technology.
The centerpiece of their exhibit is a 200° Virtual Reality Simulator that incorporates AI-powered features to assist boaters in route planning, docking, and enhancing situational awareness. This simulator delivers an advanced experience aimed at making boating safer and more efficient.
The Boating Intelligence Design Lab plays a crucial role in advancing Brunswick’s ACES strategy (Autonomy, Connectivity, Electrification), which seeks to transform recreational boating. The students contributed to this project by designing autonomy behaviors and advanced AI systems, gaining hands-on experience in a rapidly evolving field.
