Brandon Williams Returns for Mavericks Against Trail Blazers
DALLAS, Texas — Brandon Williams is set to return to the Dallas Mavericks lineup for their game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night. Williams missed Saturday’s loss to the Sacramento Kings due to a left calf contusion but participated in shootaround Monday, improving his status for the matchup at the Moda Center.
The 26-year-old point guard has averaged 12.6 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.6 rebounds over his last five games. His presence is particularly significant as the Mavericks try to regain their momentum amid a challenging stretch of their schedule.
Williams scored a season-high 26 points in a recent game against the Golden State Warriors, demonstrating his ability to create offense when the team needed it most. ‘Having Brandon back will definitely help our offense,’ one teammate noted on the condition of anonymity due to team policy.
Despite Williams’ return, the Mavericks will still be without forward Davis, who is managing right adductor soreness. Davis has participated in only 16 of the Mavericks’ 33 games this season and remains questionable for the game on Monday. ‘Missing a guy of that magnitude is tough,’ the anonymous teammate added. ‘He’s so dominant on both ends of the floor.’
The team is also dealing with the absence of other key players, including two who are out for their surgeries. Adding Williams into the lineup could provide crucial depth as the Mavericks face Portland, a team they have won against 14 of the last 17 times.
After losing four of their last five games, including defeats by narrow margins, Dallas aims to maximize their chances in this matchup. ‘We have to take care of the ball better,’ said head coach Jason Kidd. ‘Turnovers have been a big issue for us. If we can clean that up, we can turn our season around.’
The Mavericks and Trail Blazers previously faced off on November 16, with Dallas winning 138-133 in overtime. Williams’ ability to score and create plays could be essential in repeating that success. The game against Portland marks the 34th of the season for Dallas, as they continue to grapple with injuries and team dynamics.
