Brewers Omit Mears from NLCS Roster Against Dodgers

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee right-hander Nick Mears was left off the Brewers’ roster for their National League Championship Series (NLCS) matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This decision comes after Mears made 63 relief appearances during the regular season.
Instead, the Brewers included right-hander Tobias Myers, who was not part of the roster for the team’s previous series against the Chicago Cubs. Game 1 of the NLCS is set for Monday in Milwaukee.
The Dodgers also made adjustments to their bullpen for the series. They added right-hander Ben Casparius, leaving out Dalton Rushing, who had been one of three catchers on their roster during the NLDS. Rushing did not register a hit during his lone at-bat in the NLDS.
Los Angeles has also included left-hander Justin Wrobleski in their NLCS bullpen after he was added to the NLDS roster due to Tanner Scott‘s unexpected removal. Scott underwent surgery to remove an abscess caused by an infection before the final game against Philadelphia. His removal from the NLDS roster has rendered him ineligible for the NLCS.
During the regular season, Mears recorded a 5-3 record and a 3.49 ERA for the Brewers. He pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in the NLDS. In contrast, Myers had a 1-2 record with a 3.55 ERA during 22 appearances, which included six starts. Myers previously had a strong rookie season, finishing 2024 with a 9-6 record and a 3.00 ERA.
Milwaukee’s NLCS roster also does not include two-time All-Star pitcher Brandon Woodruff as he continues his recovery from injury. Casparius concluded the regular season with a 7-5 record and a 4.64 ERA across 46 appearances. He had a standout performance during last year’s postseason, including a 1.42 ERA in 6 1/3 innings, playing a crucial role in the Dodgers’ journey to the World Series title.
