Cleveland Browns Draft Travis Hunter Shedeur Sanders

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns are faced with a significant decision as the NFL Draft approaches, particularly with the No. 2 overall pick. General Manager Andrew Berry has expressed interest in Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders and standout Travis Hunter, but recent insights suggest that Sanders’ camp may not prefer a destination in Cleveland.

Former NFL analyst Louis Riddick noted on Wednesday that Sanders’ team might be wary of being selected by the Browns or any other team in the top three. Riddick, who has a connection with Colorado Coach Deion Sanders, posited that a move like that could lead to unexpected changes in the draft landscape.

“It’s a big deal because of my relationship with Deion,” Riddick said. “I believe they are fine waiting for the right situation beyond the top three.”

Berry, having observed Hunter’s dual-threat capabilities, highlighted the prospect of utilizing him as both a receiver and a cornerback. “There’s a lot of discussions around what Travis Hunter can bring to the field,” Berry said, after praising Hunter’s unique skill set.

In a recent mock draft created by analysts, Hunter was chosen as the second pick overall, following the simulation which had Miami quarterback Cam Ward go first overall. Hunter’s impressive college stats included 15 receiving touchdowns, 1,258 receiving yards, and excelling defensively with four interceptions and 11 pass break-ups last season.

However, if the Browns opt to take Hunter, the question remains: who will fill their quarterback position? While Sanders is widely regarded as the top quarterback prospect in this draft, Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss could also emerge as a strong choice based on his impressive college performances.

Notably, several analysts point out emerging talents, such as Alabama‘s Jalen Milroe, who could be a valuable pick for Cleveland. “Reuniting him with Tommy Rees might offer a unique advantage,” said one podcast host, emphasizing Milroe’s dual-threat capabilities.

The Browns’ previous drafts have not always yielded immediate results, and the selection process has often been scrutinized. Selecting Hunter at No. 2 represents a chance to significantly alter the team’s dynamics, providing a skillset not typically seen at the professional level.

As they approach draft day, the pressure mounts for the Browns to make a franchise-altering decision. With Hunter’s potential and Sanders’ pedigree, the front office must carefully weigh the futures of both players against the immediate needs of the team. This decision will not only shape the upcoming season but could also determine the trajectory of the franchise in the years to follow.
