Capitals Acquire Sourdif From Panthers in Draft Picks Trade

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Washington Capitals announced on June 26, 2025, that they have acquired forward Justin Sourdif from the Florida Panthers. In exchange, the Capitals will give up their second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and a sixth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.
Sourdif, 23, had a standout season with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2024-25, scoring 34 points, including 16 goals and 18 assists, in just 43 games. His scoring rate of 0.79 points per game was the second highest on the team for players with at least 20 games played.
The Richmond, British Columbia native was also third on the team during the playoffs, netting 10 points in 18 games. Charlotte advanced to the Calder Cup Finals, where Sourdif contributed significantly, recording four points in the final series against the Abbotsford Canucks.
Sourdif was drafted by the Panthers in the third round (87th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut for Florida on October 16, 2023, and scored his first career NHL goal on February 25, 2025, in Nashville. Overall, Sourdif has played four NHL games, tallying one goal.
Before his professional career, Sourdif played five seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Vancouver Giants and Edmonton Oil Kings, accumulating 205 points in 199 games. He also earned a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
With Andrew Mangiapane, Taylor Raddysh, and Anthony Beauvillier becoming unrestricted free agents, the Capitals hope Sourdif can fill a crucial role as they deepen their forward lineup.
