Cool and Wet Weather Forecast for Pennsylvania and Midwest

PITTSBURGH, PA – A cool and wet weather pattern is expected across Pennsylvania this week. Rain is forecasted for Wednesday, marking an Impact Day as temperatures drop significantly.
Starting Tuesday evening, showers will move into the area, with rain expected during both morning and evening commutes on Wednesday. Accumulations could reach up to one inch, with possible localized flooding due to downpours.
The National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory for Clarion and Venango counties, effective from 2 AM to 8 AM Tuesday, where temperatures may dip into the mid-30s overnight. Residents are advised to protect sensitive plants during this chilly period.
On Primary Day in Pennsylvania, voters can expect brisk temperatures ranging from the mid-30s to mid-40s. However, skies will gradually cloud up as the day progresses, leading into a wet Wednesday.
As the low-pressure system passes through, widespread precipitation will also affect the Midwest, stretching from North and South Dakota to Ohio with Southern Missouri potentially seeing up to five inches of rain. This weather change follows a previously warm month, where temperatures had frequently reached the 80s and 90s.
Illinois State Climatologist Trent Ford noted that while some areas will welcome the rain, others may face challenges, especially in agricultural communities where planting progress has stalled due to the wet conditions. He indicated that farmers in southern Illinois might be considering ‘prevent plant’ conversations due to unfavorable planting conditions.
The temperatures across the Midwest are expected to remain cooler than average, likely staying in the 60s and low 70s throughout the Memorial Day weekend, which further complicates growing conditions for crops.
As this unseasonably cool pattern continues, it remains crucial for residents and farmers to stay informed about developing weather conditions and potential impacts.
