Elizabeth Line Faces Major Disruptions Due to Track Fault
Passengers commuting on the Elizabeth Line are experiencing major disruptions following a track fault discovered on the Acton Main Line. The situation has led to severe delays affecting services between Abbey Wood and Heathrow Airport, as well as Reading, according to Transport for London (TfL). Network Rail is currently working to fix the identified track fault.
National Rail has reported that the fault has necessitated a speed restriction, which is consequently causing issues for the Heathrow Express. As a result, trains operating between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 5 are likely to encounter delays. The fault is also impacting trains heading west toward destinations such as Reading, Bristol, Cardiff, and Cornwall.
This latest development follows a series of issues earlier in the week. On Thursday, TfL reported severe delays on the Northern Line between Kennington and Camden Town due to a signalling problem at London Bridge. Additionally, a faulty train on the Jubilee Line led to a suspension of service between North Greenwich and Stratford, with severe delays on other parts of the line.
The disruptions extend beyond the Elizabeth Line. Earlier this week, a fire broke out near railway tracks in Stevenage, causing extensive damage to signalling equipment and forcing the closure of lines running through King's Cross. National Rail has stated that significant disruption will persist until the end of the day.
In addition to the Elizabeth Line, Great Western Railway services have also been impacted, with delays expected until at least 9 PM. Train routes between London Paddington and several destinations, including Didcot Parkway, Bristol Temple Meads, and Cardiff Central, are affected.
For commuters, the inconvenience comes amidst additional minor delays on the Circle, Hammersmith & City, and Elizabeth Lines triggered by signalling problems at Southall and Hammersmith earlier in the day.
Similarly, the Northern Line is experiencing ongoing issues with severe delays due to signalling problems at London Bridge, while the Jubilee Line has improved to minor delays following a faulty train at West Ham.
In light of the disruptions, authorities highlight the availability of alternate travel options, advising passengers to check the National Rail website for further updates.
