Katy Perry, the renowned pop sensation, is poised to dazzle audiences once more as she gears up to headline the upcoming AFL Grand Final entertainment, marking a significant move under the helm of new AFL CEO Andrew Dillon. As reported by Max Laughton from Fox Sports, a deal is reportedly in its final stages, potentially bringing the 39-year-old songstress back to the iconic MCG for the second time in four years.

Perry, celebrated for her chart-topping hits including “Firework,” “Roar,” and “Teenage Dream,” delivered a stellar performance before the Women’s T20 World Cup final in 2020, contributing to the electrifying post-match celebrations with the victorious Australian team.

The anticipation surrounding Perry’s return to the AFL stage is mounting, with expectations that she will grace a daytime Grand Final event, although the exact commencement time of 2:30pm remains unconfirmed at this juncture. Speculations suggest that Perry’s appearance could cost the AFL approximately $5 million, a fee deemed fitting for one of the industry’s leading female artists, boasting an impressive 50 million Spotify downloads per month.

With negotiations ongoing between the AFL and Perry’s management over the past few months, industry insiders believe that an official announcement regarding Perry’s headline act is imminent. Perry, who entertained at a private event hosted by billionaire Anthony Pratt earlier this year in Melbourne, is in line to join a prestigious lineup of recent AFL Grand Final headliners including Kiss, Robbie Williams, the Black Eyed Peas, and The Killers.

When approached for comment, AFL spokesman Jay Allen expressed the league’s excitement for the upcoming Telstra pre-game entertainment, promising yet another world-class performance ahead of the season’s pinnacle event. As plans continue to take shape, the AFL is expected to unveil its finalized lineup for the highly-anticipated Grand Final entertainment in the weeks to come.
