Oklahoma City Thunder Guard Josh Giddey Cleared Of Charges In Newport Beach Police Investigation

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey has been cleared of charges following an investigation conducted by the Newport Beach Police Department in Newport Beach, California. The department stated that they conducted a thorough examination into the allegations made against Giddey, which surfaced on social media, and found no evidence of criminal activity. The police investigation has now been closed.

The allegations against Giddey were first brought to light in November when an anonymous social media user claimed that Giddey was involved in an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl. The post, which included videos and pictures, alleged that the girl was a high school junior at the time. However, the Newport Beach Police Department was unable to corroborate these claims and found no criminal activity related to Giddey.

The NBA had also launched its own investigation into the matter and is continuing its review following the police’s findings. NBA spokesperson Michael Bass confirmed that the league is aware of the police investigation and will proceed accordingly.

Josh Giddey, a native of Melbourne, Australia, was selected sixth overall in the 2021 NBA draft and is the first graduate of the NBA Global Academy to be chosen in the draft. He was recognized for his performance during his rookie season by being named to the All-Rookie second team. Giddey has been an integral part of the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging 11.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game this season. The Thunder currently hold a 27-13 record and are in second place in the Western Conference standings.

Giddey has continued to play for the Thunder throughout the investigation, except for a missed game in December due to an ankle injury. While he receives support from home crowds, he has faced jeers from opposing fans during road games. The Australian guard has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the Thunder, showcasing his talent and versatility on the court.

With the conclusion of the police investigation, the NBA will now take the lead in reviewing the matter and deciding on any necessary actions or sanctions. NBA commissioner Adam Silver had previously stated that the league’s investigation would take a backseat to the police inquiry.

The Thunder are set to face the Golden State Warriors in their next game, where Giddey will continue to contribute to the team’s success.
