Philippe Couillard: Life After Politics
Four years after his political defeat, former Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard is leading a modest life in the municipality of Saint-Prime, located in Lac-Saint-Jean. Unlike his fellow former prime ministers, Couillard has chosen to live a simple and ordinary lifestyle.
Yves Boisvert, a columnist for La Presse, and photographer Édouard Plante-Fréchette, recently had the opportunity to meet the ex-politician. Boisvert highlights the stark contrast between Couillard and other former prime ministers in terms of their post-political careers and financial success. While many former prime ministers have gone on to lucrative career paths, including neurosurgery, Couillard does not enjoy the same level of financial prosperity.
Couillard has chosen to live in a humble and ordinary neighborhood, far from the opulence and extravagance associated with his peers such as Jean Charest, Lucien Bouchard, Brian Mulroney, and Jean Chrétien. Despite his previous experience as a neurosurgeon and the political influence he once held, Couillard now leads a modest and citizen-oriented life.
