Trump First 100 Days Poll Results

Washington, D.C. — Nearly half of Americans have given President Donald Trump a failing grade for his first 100 days in office, according to a new poll conducted by PBS News, NPR, and Marist. The poll, which surveyed 1,439 adults between April 21 and 23, found that 45% rated Trump’s handling of the presidency as an ‘F,’ while only 23% gave him an ‘A.’

The results reveal deep partisan divides. Eighty percent of Democrats and 49% of independents rated Trump’s performance poorly. Comparatively, 54% of Republicans awarded him an ‘A.’

Director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion Lee Miringoff noted the increasing disapproval among independents, stating that their lack of support might serve as a wake-up call for lawmakers as the midterm elections approach. Trump’s overall approval rating has dropped to 42%, with only 36% approval among independents. This marks a significant decline since he was sworn in for his second term.

The poll highlights concerns about Trump’s economic policies, with just 39% approving of his handling of the economy. Respondents voiced overwhelmingly negative opinions regarding tariffs, with 58% disapproving of his approach. Notably, nearly two-thirds believe grocery prices will increase as a result of his policies, a sentiment shared by 64% of the respondents.

Trump’s administration has faced criticism for its management of immigration issues as well. Although his approval rating on immigration is slightly better at 44%, a majority of Americans disapprove of his overall performance on critical issues.

Furthermore, among those surveyed, 51% believe that Trump is leading the country down the wrong path. This feeling resonates strongly among independents who express dissatisfaction with his administration’s direction.

Trump’s case handling of Kilmar Abrego Garcia—who was deported to El Salvador despite a court order for his return—has also drawn criticism. Just 35% of respondents approved of the administration’s actions in this matter.

Despite his slipping approval ratings, Trump continues to have robust support from his Republican base, which remains largely supportive of his tariffs and trade policies. Additionally, 60% of respondents stated that they view the current economic situation as a result of Trump’s actions rather than inherited issues. Observers note that this dissatisfaction could shift political dynamics as Trump gears up for the 2024 presidential campaign.

As the administration approaches its 100-day mark, the unfolding situation is not only a reflection of Trump’s immediate presidency but may also influence the broader political landscape leading to upcoming elections.
