Vikings Secure Win Amid Controversy Over Missed Field Goal

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings are enjoying their only bye week of the 2025 NFL season, following two challenging games in Europe. After a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin during Week 4, the Vikings narrowly defeated the Cleveland Browns 21-17 in London during Week 5.
The victory did not come without drama. In the fourth quarter, Vikings kicker Will Reichard attempted a field goal that could have tied the game, but it seemed to be deflected by a camera cable on the field. Replay footage showed that Reichard’s kick veered right after hitting the cable, leading to confusion and frustration among fans.
Before the kick, Reichard had made all eight of his previous attempts this season. After reviewing the evidence, his representatives requested the NFL remove the missed field goal from his statistics. The league acknowledged that the kick contacted the camera cable but decided not to amend his record. Accordingly, Reichard’s stats remain at 8-of-9 for the season.
Jordan Schultz, a sports journalist, reported that Reichard’s agents and the front office submitted formal requests, as the cable incident generated significant discussion online. Many fans argued about the validity of the miss, but the league’s confirmation put the matter to rest.
As the Vikings prepare for their next game against the Philadelphia Eagles at U.S. Bank Stadium, the focus will shift back to their performance on the field. While the upcoming game is not crucial, a win could help solidify their position as a playoff contender as the season progresses.
