West Virginia University Announces 2025 Sports Hall of Fame Inductees

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WCHS) — West Virginia University has announced its 2025 Sports Hall of Fame class, featuring six prominent athletes and coaches who have significantly impacted Mountaineer athletics. The induction ceremony is set for Saturday, Sept. 27, ahead of WVU’s football game against Utah.
This year’s inductees include Chelsea Carrier-Eades (track and field), Bill Kirelawich (football), Pat McAfee (football), Bill Stewart (football), Darrell Whitmore (baseball and football), and Petra Zublasing (rifle). Their addition brings the total number of Hall of Fame members to 243.
Chelsea Carrier-Eades is recognized as one of the most decorated track and field athletes in WVU history, having earned eight All-America honors from 2008 to 2012. A native of Buckhannon, she still holds program records in several events, including the 60-meter hurdles and the heptathlon.
Bill Kirelawich, the winningest assistant coach in WVU history, spent 32 years with the football program, contributing to multiple bowl appearances and mentoring several future NFL players.
Pat McAfee stood out as a kicker and punter from 2005 to 2008, setting numerous career scoring records at WVU before going on to a successful NFL career. He is now a well-known sports commentator and host.
Bill Stewart, affectionately known as “Coach Stew,” led the Mountaineers to a famous upset victory over Oklahoma in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl and maintained a .700 winning percentage during his tenure as head coach.
Darrell Whitmore made his mark as a two-sport standout excelling in both baseball and football. He set multiple records in baseball and was a defensive leader on the football team.
Petra Zublasing is the only Mountaineer to claim three individual NCAA rifle championships. Representing Italy in the Olympics, she has left a lasting legacy at WVU both athletically and academically.
The induction ceremonies will celebrate the achievements of these remarkable individuals, highlighting their contributions to WVU athletics.
