‘93.9 LITE FM’ to Launch Holiday Music on Tuesday
CHICAGO — Chicago radio station WLIT (93.9 LITE FM) plans to switch to its all-holiday music format on Tuesday at 3 p.m., marking its 24th year of bringing Christmas cheer to listeners. The announcement came on Monday morning from WLIT host Melissa Forman, bringing excitement to fans of holiday music.
This year, the format change is tied to a contest where listeners could predict the switch date. As a bonus, one lucky winner will receive a trip to Las Vegas to see Mariah Carey perform. Listeners can tune in to hear Carey’s iconic hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” right after the change to be eligible for the trip.
Mick Lee, 93.9 LITE FM program director, expressed his anticipation for the upcoming season. “We’re thrilled to celebrate our 25th year as Chicago’s Christmas station, spreading cheer, unity and warmth all season long,” he said in a statement. The station will kick off its holiday music with a special two-hour, commercial-free celebration.
According to WLIT’s schedule, the first song of the holiday season remains a mystery. Fans have speculated which classic will greet them—options include Bublé’s “Holly Jolly Christmas” or Andy Williams’ “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”
This year’s date of November 4 marks the latest switch to Christmas music for WLIT since 2020, when it transitioned on November 6. Historically, the station has provided continuous festive music up until New Year’s, but no end date to this year’s holiday programming has been announced.
