Colombian Stars Clash in Mexican League Showdown

MÉXICO CITY, Mexico — A highly anticipated match in Mexico’s top soccer league is set for March 14 as two standout Colombian players, James Rodríguez and Juan Cambindo, face off. This duel in Matchday 12 sees Rodríguez’s team preparing for a tough challenge against Cambindo, who leads the league with 10 goals this season.
Cambindo’s impressive performance has propelled his team to the second-best attack in the league, with 24 goals in 11 matches. His scoring rate of one goal every 82 minutes has made him a formidable presence in the opposing penalty area.
In a recent match against Toluca, Cambindo opened the scoring, but his team suffered a 5-2 defeat. Despite this loss, he remains a key player to watch. Meanwhile, León continues to hold the top spot in the league, although it lost its unbeaten record after an unfortunate last-minute defeat to León.
León’s head coach, Eduardo Berizzo, acknowledged the team’s struggles, noting, “The ball went through James little, and that affected our game.” This mismatch has prompted Necaxa’s coach, Nicolás Larcamón, to devise a defensive strategy aimed at countering Rodríguez’s influence on the field.
“We are developing a defensive plan not only to neutralize James, who is a decisive player with distinctive hierarchy, but also to address other threats such as Moreno, Mendoza, and Cádiz,” Larcamón said. “We cannot overload our focus on just one reference and neglect the others who can also pose significant challenges.”
Rodríguez has contributed two goals and four assists in 10 appearances this season, demonstrating his versatility and influence on the game. “James plays on the right side of our attack, making it hard for Lara to match up against him due to field zones,” added Larcamón.
The match, slated for 8 p.m. local time, promises to be an exciting showcase of Colombian talent in Mexico’s soccer scene.
