Costco’s Kirkland Signature Yogurt Recalled in Canada Due to Health Concerns
Kirkland Signature Probiotic Yogurt, sold exclusively at Costco outlets across Canada, has been recalled by manufacturer Danone Canada due to the potential presence of yeast that could pose a health risk to immunocompromised individuals. This announcement marks the second yogurt recall from the retailer in one month.
The affected product comes in 24-pack boxes of 100-gram servings and was available for purchase between September 3 and September 19, 2024. According to a notice posted on Costco’s website on September 23, the implicated yogurt bears best-before dates of October 18, October 20, and October 22.
Danone Canada has emphasized that the risk to food safety remains low as the yeast does not propagate in refrigerated conditions. However, the company has advised consumers not to eat the yogurt and to ensure its return to a Costco warehouse for a full refund.
This recall follows a similar incident earlier in September, when Kirkland Signature Greek yogurt was withdrawn from shelves due to mold contamination. Affected areas from the current recall include Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan, as stated in details provided by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
Individuals seeking more information have been encouraged to directly contact Danone Canada through email or by calling their dedicated phone service line between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern Time on weekdays.
