Emma Meesseman Shines in First Home Game for New York Liberty

Brooklyn, New York — Emma Meesseman played her second game with the New York Liberty on Tuesday night, displaying her talents in front of a cheering crowd at the Barclays Center. The double European champion was a key contributor in the Liberty’s victory over the Dallas Wings.
Meesseman, new to the Liberty, quickly adjusted to her teammates, including Natasha Cloud, with whom she played in Washington from 2015 to 2019. After the final buzzer, she engaged the audience, prompting cheers of “Emma, Emma” that left her touched.
“This is one of the things I will remember,” Meesseman said with a smile. “I never thought a venue like the Barclays Center would do something like this for me. I’m just a player from Belgium, doing what I love, and here are the results. I’m really grateful for our supporters. In Belgium, we have some good arenas, but this is different. It’s an iconic venue.”
In her first two outings, Meesseman showed she could help replace the injured Breanna Stewart. Against the Wings, she scored 13 points, grabbed three rebounds, and recorded two assists and two blocks in 24 minutes. Her skills perfectly match the style of play promoted by head coach Sandy Brondello.
<p"That's why we wanted her here," said Sabrina Ionescu. “It’s reassuring to know she arrived and could perform as she has in her first two games. There was no transition period; it felt like she simply fit into Liberty basketball.”
Meesseman showcased her versatility on both offense and defense, adapting quickly without having practiced with her teammates beforehand. She has formed a formidable partnership with Jonquel Jones, who also had a solid performance, contributing 15 points and 10 rebounds.
As the Liberty continues to find success, currently ranking second in the WNBA, they are optimistic about their future with Meesseman, who has sparked excitement among fans and players alike.
