Cardinals Diamondbacks Game Summary

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals completed a three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 4-3 victory on Sunday at Busch Stadium.

Masyn Winn hit a home run, and Victor Scott II delivered a key tiebreaking single in the seventh inning. Cardinals pitcher Sonny Gray allowed three runs on nine hits and struck out five batters over six innings.

Gray’s performance marked his first start against the Diamondbacks since August 2015. Iván Herrera contributed significantly, driving in two runs for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals entered the seventh trailing 3-2 when Jordan Walker started the inning with an infield single. Scott’s hit up the middle off Jalen Beeks brought home the decisive run, putting St. Louis ahead.

In an attempt to rally, the Diamondbacks took the lead earlier in the game with a two-run single from Eugenio Suárez in the first inning. Arizona regained the lead briefly in the sixth before Herrera’s sacrifice fly tied the score.

Relief pitchers John King (1-0) and JoJo Romero pitched scoreless innings, while Phil Maton closed the game for his second save of the season.

This victory marks the Cardinals’ fourth series sweep of the season and their first against the Diamondbacks since August 2022. Arizona has now lost five consecutive games.

Looking ahead, the Diamondbacks will play the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, while the Cardinals begin a six-game road trip against the Baltimore Orioles.
