David Goyer Interview Foundation

LOS ANGELES, CA — Screenwriter David S. Goyer, known for his work on iconic films including The Dark Knight, recently spoke with Brandon Davis of Phase Hero about his latest project, Foundation, and reflected on the legacy of his past works. Goyer’s comments came during a promotional tour for the third season of Foundation on Apple TV+, which is based on Isaac Asimov‘s science fiction series.

During the interview, Goyer was asked about the lasting impact of The Dark Knight and what might have happened to Bruce Wayne after his final scene. He responded, “I can’t imagine. If Chris [Nolan] called me and said, ‘I have an idea to do another…’ Would I absolutely consider it? 100%.” Goyer expressed that while there is a desire to revisit the character, they intended the closing scene to signify an end.

Goyer also discussed the process behind that iconic ending, emphasizing that it stemmed from a serious concern for Bruce Wayne’s future. He mentioned a collaborative lunch with director Christopher Nolan where they brainstormed the film, culminating in that memorable nod between Bruce and Alfred. “That was the first idea, and we knew we had a movie,” Goyer recalled.

In addition to reflecting on Gotham’s hero, Goyer shed light on his latest television series, Foundation. He teased a dramatic twist in the recently concluded third season, where the identity of the elusive Mule is finally revealed as Bayta. “Yes, I think it’s pretty obvious that a lot of this stuff was planned from the beginning,” he explained.

Goyer highlighted his intention to incorporate more female representation in the show, noting, “It would be interesting to have some female energy in there, in terms of something that potentially topples the Empire.” He is confident this twist will resonate with viewers and spark discussions among fans of the original books.

Foundation has been renewed for a fourth season, which Goyer is currently writing. He estimates fans will have to wait around two years for new episodes. As the science fiction series continues to evolve, Goyer remains deeply committed to its narrative arc and character development.

Overall, David Goyer’s passion for storytelling continues to shine through his work, whether in Gotham or in the far reaches of the galaxy.
