Brenden Aaronson Shines with Goal in Leeds United Draw Against Manchester United
LEEDS, England — Brenden Aaronson scored his second goal of the season in Leeds United‘s 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, marking a significant moment in his career. The American midfielder found the net in the 62nd minute, after going over two months without a goal.
The English Premier League match saw both teams struggling as Leeds remained in the bottom five, but any goal is an uplifting moment for the 25-year-old and the club. Aaronson capitalized on a mistake by Manchester’s defender Ayden Heaven to put Leeds ahead, receiving a well-placed pass from Pascal Struijk. Aaronson then maneuvered past Heaven to score into the bottom corner, much to the delight of the Elland Road crowd.
“It is great for the team to stay unbeaten,” Aaronson said. “But of course we wanted three points.” Despite his goal, Manchester United equalized just three minutes later, tying the game. Leeds now boasts a record of 2 wins, 5 draws, and 8 losses, sitting in 16th place on the table.
Since being benched for four games, Aaronson has made his way back into the starting lineup, contributing with three assists along with his two goals in recent matches. His performance has drawn praise from head coach Daniel Farke, who emphasized the importance of positivity in sports amid ongoing social media criticism.
“He deserves all the plaudits at the moment because his work rate is and was never in doubt,” Farke stated. “He always works his socks off for the team.” Aaronson credits Farke’s support for helping him maintain his form as he hopes to secure a spot on the U.S. men’s national team for the upcoming World Cup.
Leeds look to build on this performance as they travel to Newcastle United this Wednesday, before facing Derby County in an FA Cup match on January 11. As the Premier League season continues, Aaronson remains a key player in Leeds’ bid to avoid relegation.
