Spencer Pratt Palisades Fire Mayoral Run

LOS ANGELES, CA — Spencer Pratt, a reality television star, announced his candidacy for mayor of Los Angeles on January 6, 2026, during a rally marking the one-year anniversary of the devastating Palisades fire that destroyed his home and thousands of others.

Pratt, known for his role on “The Hills,” has been vocal in his criticism of Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom, blaming them for the inadequate response to the fire that claimed 12 lives and razed over 6,800 homes. “The system in Los Angeles isn’t struggling, it’s fundamentally broken,” Pratt told a cheering crowd of hundreds at the rally, emphasizing the need for accountability.

The event, dubbed “They Let Us Burn,” featured passionate speeches that criticized government leaders. Former Los Angeles schools Superintendent Austin Beutner, who is also contesting Bass for the mayoral seat, has echoed Pratt’s sentiments, accusing Bass of dodging responsibility for city failures during the fire.

Community organizer Rae Huang has joined the race from the left, asserting that Bass has engaged in excessive blame-shifting. However, there remains uncertainty about whether developer Rick Caruso, who lost to Bass in the 2022 election and has been critical of her leadership following the fire, will run again.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, who represents the affected areas, stated she is still contemplating a mayoral bid, responding to community calls for new leadership.

In his remarks, Pratt expressed frustration about the city’s preparedness, emphasizing that while essential services failed during the fire, he felt like he had been “naive” about taxpayer accountability. “I’m done waiting for someone to take real action. That’s why I am running for mayor,” he declared.

Bass, who was overseas during the fire’s onset, has faced ongoing scrutiny regarding the city’s emergency management. Her campaign responded to Pratt’s announcement by accusing him of exploiting the tragedy for personal gain.

As the mayoral race unfolds, the impact of the Palisades fire continues to resonate deeply within the community, and Pratt’s advocacy has made him a prominent voice in the debate over leadership accountability in Los Angeles.
