Nikola Jokic Blazers Game 2025

DENVER, CO – In a recent NBA Cup game, the Denver Nuggets faced a controversial ending against the Portland Trail Blazers, losing 109-107. The game concluded with a pivotal jump ball called between Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Blazers forward Toumani Camara with just six seconds left.

During the play, Camara wrapped both arms around Jokic from behind while seemingly grabbing the ball, leading to the referees’ decision for a jump ball. This decision frustrated Nuggets head coach David Adelman, who felt it warranted a foul instead.

Adelman addressed the situation in a press conference, stating, “I don’t know what [the officials] saw. I thought there was a lot of contact on that play.” The coach planned to use the moment as a teaching opportunity for his players, emphasizing that, if such moves are within the rules, they should adopt the strategy in future games.

The official NBA Last Two Minutes Report supported the referees, confirming that the call on the court was correct, including the jump-ball ruling. Adelman remarked, “If you’re allowed to wrap someone from behind with two arms, as long as you touch the ball, it’s a jump ball, that’s a fundamental I have to teach in practice. So we will definitely do that.”

Nuggets forward Cam Johnson echoed Adelman’s sentiments, stating, “I’ve never seen that one. I’ve been playing basketball a long time. I’ve never seen that one.” The unusual and high-stakes moment led to a shot clock violation against Denver, granting Portland a chance to close out the game with a free throw.

The Blazers ultimately capitalized on free throws in the closing moments, marking a bitter defeat for a Nuggets team that had put forth a solid effort, with Jokic nearing another triple-double with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists.

The Nuggets will look to bounce back in their next outing as they continue to navigate the beginning of the season amidst challenging officiating scenarios.
