Blake Treinen Honors Charlie Kirk with Hat Tribute During Dodgers Game

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Treinen paid tribute to political activist Charlie Kirk during a game against the San Francisco Giants on Friday night. Treinen wore a blue Dodgers hat with Kirk’s name and a Christian cross written on it, honoring the 31-year-old who was shot and killed earlier in the week.
Kirk was gunned down at a rally on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025. Authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the assassination. Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated that Robinson had previously made alarming comments about Kirk to his family.
Treinen’s gesture came as he entered the game in the ninth inning. The inscription on his cap was readily visible and drew both applause and criticism from fans. While many praised Treinen for his heartfelt tribute, some baseball fans voiced disapproval on social media.
“What a class act,” one fan tweeted, applauding Treinen’s support for Kirk. In contrast, another fan suggested that the pitcher should face disciplinary action for honoring a controversial figure.
The Dodgers did not conduct a formal tribute during the game. However, the team did express their condolences to Kirk’s family and advocated for an end to political violence in a statement read before the match.
In a recent interview, Treinen expressed how his faith impacts his life and career, stating, “He’s my everything. I wouldn’t be here without my relationship with Jesus.” He added that his performances on the mound are part of his worship.
Despite Treinen’s efforts, the game ended unfavorably for the Dodgers. Treinen faced one batter in the 10th inning, but the team ultimately lost 5-1 against the Giants.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Kirk’s murder amid widespread condemnation in the sporting world. The events have sparked discussions concerning the political climate in the country.
