Seattle Mariners Alds Game 3

DETROIT, Michigan (WILX) – The Seattle Mariners claimed a crucial 8-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers in Game 3 of the American League Division Series on October 7 at Comerica Park. With this win, the Mariners take a 2-1 lead in the series, putting them one step away from the AL Championship Series.

Starting pitchers Jack Flaherty for the Tigers and Logan Gilbert for the Mariners faced off in a game that began late due to a rain delay. Originally slated for 4:08 PM, the first pitch was thrown at 7:01 PM.

After two scoreless innings, Victor Robles led off the third inning with a double for Seattle. J.P. Crawford later came up and hit a single, allowing Robles to score after a throwing error by Tigers’ left fielder Riley Greene. Randy Arozarena then hit a single to bring Crawford home, making it 2-0 for the Mariners.

The following inning saw Eugenio Suárez, a former Tiger, hit a massive 422-foot homer, extending Seattle’s lead to 3-0. Jack Flaherty exited after just 3 1/3 innings, having allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits.

Detroit found the board in the bottom of the fifth when Kerry Carpenter‘s grounder to second allowed Dillon Dingler to score, making it 4-1. However, J.P. Crawford would not let up, hitting a solo shot in the sixth, further pushing Seattle’s lead to 5-1.

Crawford added to his impressive performance with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, making it 6-1. The Mariners capped off their scoring with a two-run homer from Cal Raleigh in the ninth, putting the score at 8-1.

Though the Tigers rallied in the ninth with a two-RBI double from Spencer Torkelson and an RBI single from Andy Ibáñez, it wasn’t enough to bridge the gap as the game ended 8-4.

Logan Gilbert dominated from the mound, pitching six innings with seven strikeouts and allowing just one run. The Mariners showcased their offensive strength, with hits from five different players.

As Seattle looks to clinch the series in Game 4, the Tigers will be under pressure to perform on Wednesday with their season on the line.
