Tom Cruise Mission Impossible Parachute Stunt

Manama, Bahrain – Tom Cruise has earned a Guinness World Record for the most burning parachute jumps by an individual, showcasing his dedication to action and authenticity in films. The record was set during the filming of his latest movie, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which was released on May 23, 2025.

The 62-year-old actor executed a remarkable 16 jumps from a helicopter, each time using a parachute soaked in fuel and set ablaze. After diving through flames, Cruise would cut away the burned chute and safely deploy a backup, reflecting a level of risk no other actor has attempted.

“Tom doesn’t just play action heroes – he is an action hero!” said Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records. “His obsession with authenticity and commitment to pushing the limits is what makes him a legend.”

Filming took place in the Drakensberg mountains of South Africa, where Cruise was dropped from up to 7,500 feet. With a 50-pound camera rig attached to him, he captured breathtaking footage of his fiery descent. “The audience can tell when something’s been cheated, so it’s important to be doing it all for real,” said Wade Eastwood, the film’s Second Unit Director and Stunt Coordinator.

The Mission: Impossible franchise has become known for its high-stakes stunts, with Cruise often performing his own. In Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), he completed the first HALO jump filmed on camera. The series, starting with the first film in 1996, has grossed nearly $5 billion worldwide.

Following the success of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (2023), which holds the highest audience score in franchise history, The Final Reckoning had the highest opening weekend of all films in the series. As an actor with a record for the most consecutive $100 million-grossing movies, Cruise continues to raise the bar in action cinema.

His latest adventure not only underscores his legacy as a legendary stunt performer but also keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. With no plans to slow down, Cruise remains committed to thrilling viewers around the globe.
