Wnba 2025 Season Preview

NEW YORK, NY — The 2025 WNBA season officially begins this Friday, bringing excitement and anticipation for basketball fans nationwide. After a thrilling 2024 campaign, the league welcomes new talents like No. 1 draft pick Paige Bueckers and the first-ever expansion team, the Golden State Valkyries.

The New York Liberty, fresh off their first championship, are favorites to defend their title, with odds at +225. They return all five starters, including Finals MVP Jonquel Jones and star players Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart. “The chemistry from last season should help us stay competitive,” said Ionescu.

Behind the Liberty, the Las Vegas Aces are close competitors, featuring MVP candidate A'ja Wilson and a star-studded lineup including Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young. Their odds are currently at +275.

An unexpected contender is the Indiana Fever, who after a striking transformation, have entered the top ranks with odds at +300. With stars like Caitlin Clark added to a revamped roster, the Fever hope to improve on last season’s playoff exit.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Lynx, who reached the Finals last year, are also in the title mix with +400 odds. Their roster remains intact, bringing back key players including Napheesa Collier.

As teams prepare to tip off, excitement surrounds the Valkyries, bringing their distinct style to the league. With a combination of international talents and experienced veterans, they aim to establish a solid base in their inaugural season, despite their current odds at +20,000.

“Our goal this year is to lay the groundwork for a successful franchise while showcasing the talent we have,” said head coach Natalie Nakase. The eyes will be on how well these new players adapt as the season unfolds.

BetMGM reports that bettors are backing Clark and the Fever heavily, as they hold around 80% of the WNBA futures handle. Looking ahead, the season promises thrilling matchups and storylines as the league embarks on its 29th year.
