AEW Dynamite Highlights: Jamie Hayter Advances to Owen Cup Finals

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana — AEW Dynamite aired live from the Lakefront Arena on April 23, featuring high-stakes matches in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. In the main event, Jamie Hayter defeated Kris Statlander, securing her place in the finals at Double or Nothing.
The night opened with a celebration led by Master P, introducing the new AEW World Trios Champions, The Opps, including Samoa Joe. However, the celebration was cut short by an attack from the Death Riders, consisting of Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli. Chaos erupted as Master P confronted Moxley, while the Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada came to the rescue, neutralizing the threat.
In another segment, Renee Paquette interviewed Nick Wayne about his recent win of the ROH World Television Championship, but Christian Cage interrupted, claiming he was the reason for Wayne’s success. Wayne challenged Cage, asserting that sticking to the plan leads to victory.
Mark Briscoe faced Ricochet in a thrilling match, ultimately winning after a surprise victory roll. Post-match, Ricochet retaliated by attacking Briscoe with a steel chair, but Kevin Knight made the save just in time, showcasing their ongoing rivalry.
Emerging from suspension, the tag team FTR was introduced by their new agent Stokely Hathaway. Hathaway defended FTR’s actions, claiming unfair treatment compared to other wrestlers. They unexpectedly attacked the Rock 'n Roll Express, leading to another brawl.
The Young Bucks faced off against Speedball Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight, winning after a chaotic match filled with high-flying maneuvers and a timely interference from Ricochet, which ultimately tilted the match in the Bucks’ favor.
MVP and Bobby Lashley promoted the Hurt Syndicate, but MJF interrupted with proposals of collaboration, offering Lashley a car as leverage. Lashley, however, accepted the keys but left MJF hanging with a thumbs down as he drove off.
Later, Konosuke Takeshita and Josh Alexander defeated Will Ospreay and Brody King, leading to a massive post-match brawl involving Hangman Page, who attempted to make the save but was overwhelmed by the Don Callis Family.
In the final match, Jamie Hayter overcame Kris Statlander in a hard-fought battle, hitting her signature move, Hayterade, for the win. Following the match, Mercedes Moné made her presence known, setting the stage for an intense showdown at Double or Nothing.
