Xavier Basketball Game March 2025

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Xavier Musketeers (18-10, 10-7 Big East) will host the Creighton Bluejays (20-8, 13-4 Big East) on March 1, 2025, as both teams seek vital victories with just a few games left in the regular season.

Xavier’s momentum has grown after a strong showing in recent weeks, showcasing an impressive five-game home winning streak. In their last game, they defeated Seton Hall 73-66, with Ryan Conwell leading the team with 22 points.

Creighton also enters the game with confidence, having last triumphed against DePaul, winning 75-65 on Wednesday. Star player Ryan Kalkbrenner scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in that victory. Head Coach Greg McDermott acknowledged the performance as necessary, emphasizing the need to improve for the upcoming challenge.

The matchup is crucial for both teams; a win for Xavier may secure their place in the NCAA Tournament, while a victory for Creighton could bolster their chances for a top-two seed in the Big East Tournament.

Both teams have demonstrated capability on offense, but the game is likely to rely heavily on defensive strategies and three-point shooting tactics. Creighton leads in average three-point makes with nine per game, while Xavier has a robust defense against the three-pointer, allowing only 6.8 per game. Both teams rank among the top in assists per game, indicating fluid offensive movements can be expected.

Xavier is averaging 77.1 points per game, while Creighton follows closely behind at 75.3. The Musketeers also rely on free throws to boost their scoring, making them particularly potent at the charity stripe. Their free throw rate ranks among the league’s best, while Creighton is known for its offensive rebounds, where Kalkbrenner remains a dominant force.

“We’re gonna have to be better,” McDermott warned, as he prepares his squad for the crucial road test. “If we think this is good enough, we’re kidding ourselves.”

Xavier has gained much-needed momentum ahead of the matchup, overcoming a rocky start earlier in the season. Despite a previous game against Creighton resulting in a loss, this time, they have the home-court advantage at the Cintas Center.

As for individual players to watch, Kalkbrenner stands out with averages of 18.9 points and 8.7 rebounds, while Xavier’s Zach Freemantle and Ryan Conwell have both been significant contributors. Freemantle averages 16.6 points and 7.1 rebounds, proving to be a key player for the Musketeers.

Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. ET Saturday as both teams gear up for a potentially explosive contest that could reshape their paths heading into postseason play. College basketball fans will certainly want to tune in for what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
