As Australia prepares to commemorate Anzac Day, a day of national remembrance, various states and territories have different regulations governing trading hours. The solemn occasion, featuring dawn services and ceremonies, prompts closures and restricted openings at stores and businesses.

In New South Wales and Victoria, major retailers like Woolworths and Coles are required to remain closed until 1pm, with exceptions for essential services. Similarly, ALDI stores will have varied opening times nationwide.

In Queensland and South Australia, most large retailers are mandated to stay closed throughout the day, with exemptions for specific shops like bookstores and pharmacies. Meanwhile, in Western Australia, Bunnings and other stores in Perth can open only if categorized as small retailers or essential services.

Alcohol sales also adhere to differing regulations on Anzac Day. For instance, BWS will operate most of its stores from 1pm until evening, while Dan Murphy’s will have reduced hours in certain states. Liquorland stores will open with restricted hours in several regions.

Shopping centers like Westfield will open in NSW and Victoria at 1pm, but remain closed in Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia. Department stores like Big W will have limited hours in some states, including Tasmania, Victoria, and the Northern Territory.

As Australians honor the sacrifice of their service men and women on Anzac Day, the unique trading regulations underscore the significance of the national day of remembrance. From specialty retailers to major supermarkets, the day will see a mix of closures and restricted openings, reflecting the importance accorded to this solemn occasion.
