Los Angeles, California — WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio recently opened up about the injuries that forced him to miss his scheduled match against Chad Gable at WrestleMania 41 earlier this year. Mysterio was removed from the event after suffering a groin injury during a six-man tag team match on April 18, 2025, episode of SmackDown.

In a recent interview, the 50-year-old lucha libre superstar disclosed that he was battling more than just the publicly reported groin issue. “No, not easy (to stay on top in the wrestling industry),” he explained. “Obviously, with the amount of injuries that I’ve had over the years.” Mysterio added, “I’m actually recovering from one that I just had right before WrestleMania. A torn groin and a busted eardrum.”

Despite these setbacks, Mysterio expressed his love for performing in the ring. “I still love doing what I do. I definitely believe that I picked up my second wind when my son started to wrestle and he broke in for the first time,” he said, referring to his son’s early experience in wrestling.

The connection with his fans keeps him motivated. “So, the connection is definitely still there. I enjoy doing it. I enjoy watching my son,” Mysterio shared. His enthusiasm for wrestling remains strong, even through tough times.

Mysterio also mentioned a planned special entrance that was scrapped by WWE after his withdrawal from WrestleMania. He underwent surgery afterward to repair a torn abductor muscle.

As of now, there is no known timetable for Mysterio’s return to WWE, as he continues to focus on his recovery.
