Chelsea’s Transfer Coup: Fulham Defender To Join Stamford Bridge on Free Transfer
Chelsea are on the brink of securing the services of Tosin Adarabioyo, as sources indicate that the 26-year-old defender is set to join the Stamford Bridge outfit on a free transfer. Adarabioyo, currently with Fulham, is nearing a long-term contract with his existing deal at Craven Cottage expiring soon.
The defender, Tosin Adarabioyo, had attracted interest from other clubs but reportedly favors Chelsea’s project over others. While Newcastle United remains in the mix for the former Manchester City player, the Blues are increasingly confident of outmaneuvering their Premier League rivals in the pursuit of Adarabioyo’s signature.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Adarabioyo comes on the back of Fikayo Tomori’s departure to Fluminense, leaving a void in the central defensive position. Amid interest in Trevoh Chalobah from other Premier League outfits, Chelsea are open to offloading the 24-year-old to balance their books in line with the Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
However, sources indicate that the impending acquisition of Adarabioyo is not directly linked to the potential sale of Chalobah. Chelsea’s decision to target the 26-year-old defies their usual transfer policy, as the club typically aims for even younger acquisitions.
Despite the deviation from their norm, Chelsea view the signing of Adarabioyo as a strategic move, given the defender’s quality and availability on a free transfer. Adarabioyo was a mainstay in Fulham’s Premier League campaign last season, making 20 appearances despite enduring a spell on the sidelines due to groin surgery.
Adarabioyo, with aspirations of reaching the pinnacle of the game, desires to feature for the English national team in the future. Expressing his ambition in an interview, the defender stated his confidence in his ability to compete at the highest level, citing players like John Stones as benchmarks for his own aspirations.
