Caitlyn Rock Washoe County Court Hearing 2025

RENO, Nev. — Caitlyn Rock, a former Washoe County School District employee, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of sexual assault and sexual seduction involving a minor under 14. The 46-year-old waived her right to a speedy trial, with her case now set to begin on Oct. 6 in the Second Judicial District Court of Nevada.

Rock, who worked as an intervention prevention assistant at Billinghurst and Swope middle schools, was arrested in June 2024 after allegations surfaced of a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student. The relationship reportedly began in 2022 and continued until the boy was 14. The first alleged encounter occurred in the parking lot of Grace Church in Reno, according to court documents.

The boy’s mother reported the relationship to police after tracking her son’s phone and discovering suspicious activity. The victim later confessed to the relationship, leading to Rock’s arrest. The Washoe County School District did not renew Rock’s contract following her arrest, which coincided with the end of the school year on June 10, 2024.

Rock faces 20 felony charges, including multiple counts of sexual assault against a child under 14. She remains in custody at the Washoe County Jail on a $2 million bond. Judge Lynne Jones set the trial date for October, with proceedings expected to last approximately one week.

Prosecutors allege that the relationship began with text messages and escalated to in-person meetings outside of school. Rock’s role at the district involved overseeing students, which authorities say provided her access to the victim. The case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the charges and Rock’s position within the school system.

Rock’s defense has not yet publicly commented on the allegations. The trial is expected to delve into the details of the relationship, including evidence from text messages and location data obtained by the victim’s mother.
