Stakeholders and participants at the Nigeria Development and Finance Forum (NDFF) 2024 Conference have urged the federal government to develop frameworks for the efficient and cost-effective delivery of palliatives to vulnerable citizens in the country.

This call was made at the two-day conference in Abuja themed ‘The Road to Economic and Social Welfare Transformation’ and featured discussions on the impact of economic shocks and the necessity of providing support to vulnerable populations.

In a communique signed by the director of the Nigeria Development and Finance Forum, Jide Akintunde, it was highlighted that demand for palliatives would continue due to both global and local economic, social, and climate crises.

The conference stressed the importance of policies that enhance the business environment, promote production, and strengthen industrial capacity in the nation.

Additionally, there was an emphasis on the need for market reforms accompanied by the revitalization of institutions with efficient values-driven approaches to support overall economic development.

Investments in health, education, and industrialization were specifically cited as crucial for sustainable socio-economic growth in Nigeria.

Regarding governance and institutional development, the conference underscored the significance of good governance, effective leadership, and a clear economic agenda to boost long-term investment confidence.

Notably, institutions like the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) were mentioned as examples of incremental progress and the necessity of enabling success factors in critical institutions.

The forum also discussed the need for sustainable policies that promote gender equality, support women in business, and harness the opportunities presented by Nigeria’s blue economy.

Participants highlighted the challenges posed by climate change on agriculture, food security, and conflict situations such as herders-farmers clashes, emphasizing the importance of green economic growth frameworks to address climate vulnerabilities in the nation.

The NDFF conference called for collaborative efforts among the public, private, and international sectors to innovate regulatory and financing frameworks for sustainable economic advancement in Nigeria.

Overall, the recommendations from the conference aim to address the current economic challenges in Nigeria and pave the way for a more resilient and inclusive economic future for all citizens.
