Red Sox Stars Duran and Mayer Eye 2026 World Baseball Classic

Phoenix, Arizona – As baseball fans anticipate the 2026 World Baseball Classic, excitement builds around Boston Red Sox players potentially representing Team Mexico. After a successful 2023 tournament, the upcoming event already sees commitments from stars like Aaron Judge and Paul Skenes.
Last week, Team Mexico general manager Rodrigo López confirmed that Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran and top shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer are under consideration for the squad. Both players, California natives, have strong ties to Mexico through their parents. Duran’s father, Octavio, and both of Mayer’s parents, Enrique and Myriam, were born in Mexico.
In the 2023 tournament, Mexico impressed fans, reaching the semifinals and defeating Team USA in pool play. Duran and Mayer expressed their enthusiasm for representing their heritage during the Red Sox’s exhibition trip to Monterrey, Mexico, earlier this season.
Duran, who became an All-Star since the last WBC, looks to enhance his performance further on the international stage. Mayer is also expected to make a significant impact, with fans eager to see him in a Red Sox uniform.
The potential inclusion of both players would be a major boost for Team Mexico, which seeks to improve on its previous success in the World Baseball Classic.
